Sweet Lu

Jazz recording artist Lutalo ‘Sweet Lu’ Olutosin has had an inspired career that is propelled by a mission to share his God-given talent with the world. Born in Gary Indiana, Sweet Lu grew up in a large, loving family. The family would move from Indiana to the deep south, where Lu would spend his adolescence in Mississippi. Gospel music was the sole soundtrack in the household, and in Lu's words, the family attended church "all the time." The spark that inspired Lu's journey into jazz came when as a young man he was hanging out with friends and heard Al Jarreau on the radio. Lu was amazed by what Jarreau was doing vocally, and from that moment on he would study jazz as much as he could, feeling called to the music. It was music that kept Lu grounded through the experiences of his 35-year career in the military and police services.

With gospel, blues, and jazz serving as the foundation for his musical expression, the masterful lyricist is known to put on a lively show that includes silky dance moves to complement his vocals. In 2015, Sweet Lu was hand-picked to headline the 2015 Kennedy Center Jazz Performance Series thanks to his fresh approach to soul jazz. He has also played at the Teatro Rendano in Cosenza, Italy, as well as the Atlanta Jazz Festival, among many other events and venues. In 2017, he released his album Meet Me At The Crossroads, which debuted at no. 4 on the Billboard Traditional Jazz Album charts, rising to no. 1 within three weeks. The album would also win a silver medal award for jazz album from the 2017 Global Music Awards. Lu continues perfecting his craft as an artist, holding the belief that one should be their best self every day.

Sweet Lu brings great live performances to a variety of venues and events, from select restaurants and cafes to concert halls and corporate events. Full band available upon request.
